Listening, Learning, and Honouring on Red Dress Day
Learn directly from Indigenous youth
As Red Dress Day approaches, many educators, organizations, and communities are reflecting on how to meaningfully acknowledge the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. This day is not only about awareness—it is about remembering, honouring, and recognizing the ongoing impacts of colonial systems that continue to affect Indigenous families and communities today.
At Stardale Women's Group, we have seen how important it is to create spaces where Indigenous girls and young women can share their voices, experiences, and perspectives in their own way and on their own terms.
Through storytelling, film, and dialogue, Stardale continues a legacy that began with Indigenous women gathering in circle to speak openly about their lives. Today, that work lives on through youth leadership. Our films and presentations—grounded in lived experience—invite participants to listen more deeply and engage with these realities in a way that goes beyond statistics or summaries.
After one such presentation, the host shared, “Through the powerful storytelling shared in the Stardale Women's Group documentary, ‘Rise - the Stardale Journey’, and the panel discussion, Trans Mountain employees deepened their understanding of Red Dress Day and why empowering Indigenous women and girls is essential to reconciliation and lasting change.” — Regan Schlecker, Director, Indigenous Relations.
Red Dress Day is a moment, but the work continues beyond it. For those in education and community roles, it can be difficult to know how to hold these conversations in a way that is respectful and meaningful.
One way forward is not to carry these conversations alone, but to create space for Indigenous voices to lead. At Stardale, we remain committed to supporting Indigenous young women as they grow into leaders, share their stories, and help others better understand the realities they navigate today.
If you would like to host a film and panel discussion or you know someone who should, we invite you to visit stardalegroup.com/presentations for more information. You can also write to stardalecharity@gmail.com
