
School Liaison Position
This position is for an individual to be in contact with schools for referrals and Stardale girls.
Job Overview
The Stardale Indigenous Liaison School Worker role is to assist the girls who attend Stardale with their school studies through liaising with each girl’s school and specific staff. The worker will conduct herself in a professional manner and follow all policies laid out with the CBE and Calgary Catholic school divisions. She will ensure that the confidentiality and privacy of the girls is respected while following FOIPP (Freedom of Information and Privacy Protection). This position is an adjunct to the Stardale Indigenous girls’ program to ensure regular school attendance and graduation from high school.
Qualifications
Education level: A range of educational backgrounds will be considered. Sociology,
Social Work, Education, the behavioural sciences are preferred. A college diploma or
degree training is required.
Highly motivated, excellent time management and problem-solving skills
Experience with youth programming and a school framework for delivery
Experience volunteering and/or working with indigenous youth and/or communities
Strong understanding of child development and healthy parenting techniques
Supervision experience is considered a strong asset
A valid driver’s license and access to an automobile is required during working hours
Training in Trauma Informed Care and Foundations of Caregiver Support
Duties and Responsibilities
Follow all Stardale procedures as laid out in staff manual and as directed by the Executive Director
Conduct, when necessary, presentations at schools to inform and recruit Indigenous girls for the Stardale program
Draft appropriate forms for each girl’s attendance, courses and behaviours exhibited
Write referrals for the girls to the other workers of Stardale
Cooperate with the staff of the schools that the girls attend
Observe and report to the Stardale Executive Director any behaviour that a girl may demonstrate which is potentially harmful to themselves and/or others
Communicate with the staff of Stardale regarding each girl’s progress
Maintain records which are easily accessible to all Stardale staff
Assist the girls with their homework and their studies
Facilitate communication and collaboration between Indigenous families and the schools
Report each Friday by 3 p.m. with all updates concerning each girl and their school attendance, performance, and other pertinent information
Submit written reports for the program as needed for evaluation purposes
Collaborate with mentors and volunteers who assist with programming
Attend school meetings as required
Role
1. Advocating for the needs and rights of Indigenous students.
2. Facilitating communication and collaboration between Indigenous families and schools.
3. Providing academic support and tutoring to Indigenous students.
4. Supporting the development of culturally responsive teaching practices.
5. Providing guidance and support to Indigenous students as they transition from primary to secondary school or from school to post-secondary education or employment.

Pay Grade is $30 per hour starting. This is a 20-hour work week. Travel expenses covered.
