Stories That Bring Us Together

Stories have the power to connect us, open conversations and create greater understanding.

Join Stardale Women’s Group at the Calgary Justice Film Festival’s justREEL Community Event for an evening of film, storytelling and conversation.

The evening will feature playwright Eugene Stickland, Stardale youth drummers, and screenings of the short films The Road and Shadow in Time. Together, the films and conversation create space to explore the experiences and perspectives of Indigenous women and girls and the issues affecting their lives and communities.

Admission is free, and a reception will follow the event.

Reconciliation begins with listening.

The young women of Stardale Women’s Group bring their voices, experiences and culture to an evening of drumming, reflection and conversation. Through sharing what culture, truth and reconciliation mean to them, they invite us to listen, learn and deepen our understanding of one another.

We’re grateful to gather in community with Central United Church and welcome everyone to be part of the evening.

Listening, Learning & Walking Forward Together

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity to listen, reflect and deepen our understanding of the experiences of Indigenous peoples in Canada.

Stardale Women’s Group and the Rotary Club of Calgary Heritage Park invite the community to gather in that spirit. Through storytelling, film, Elder-led prayer and wisdom sharing, the evening will create space for reflection, learning and meaningful conversation.

Together, we continue the journey toward reconnection, reconciliation and resilience.

Conversations That Matter

Some conversations ask us to listen more closely.

Stardale Women’s Group and The Brass Buffalo Trading Post invite the community to gather for an evening centred on the realities facing Indigenous women and girls. Through storytelling, cultural teaching and shared perspectives, the evening will create space to explore MMIWG, violence, residential schools and intergenerational trauma.

Young Indigenous women from Stardale will bring their own voices and perspectives to the conversation, alongside Elder teachings, drumming, film and a presentation from the Calgary Police Service Indigenous Unit.

Community Events

Being involved and active in the community is a crucial value we instill in the girls as part of our program. We often schedule opportunities for the girls to be involved in community activities and events.

This event is an opportunity to discuss the effects of residential schools and their legacy and is open to the public. It will include a ceremony with Elder presence and teachings and a drumming performance from The Stardale Girls Drumming Group.

Additionally there will be a screening of the film "The Road" created by Stardale Women's Group. Refreshments will also be served.
