February 2024 - A Month in Review

As we welcome March in with a chill, we at Stardale Women's Group look back on a month filled with enriching activities, community engagement, and meaningful connections. From creative pursuits to honoring MMIWG2S+, here's a review of the exciting activities that kept our girls inspired and empowered throughout February.

Gliding on Ice: Ice Skating at Bowness Park

Amidst the winter wonderland of Bowness Park, our girls embraced the chilly February air with laughter and joy as they took to the ice for a day of ice skating. They also stayed warm and cozy thanks to Kids Sport Calgary!

Unleashing Creativity: Painting at Class

Creativity knows no bounds at Stardale Women's Group as we encourage the girls to explore a variety of topics and mediums. Our classtime painting sessions provided a space for the Stardale girls to explore their artistic talents and emotions. These vibrant and expressive pieces spoke volumes about their inner worlds and provided a wonderful opportunity to channel their thoughts and feelings into visual masterpieces.

Beats of Resilience: Drumming Class

Rhythms echoed through our space during another drumming class, where the girls continued to learn new songs and connect with the deep spiritual meaning of the drum. Led by their amazing instructors instructors, drumming classes are a way for them to come together, heal and connect as a reminder of the strength found in unity and the healing potential of music.

Honoring Voices: February 14th Walk for MMIWG2S+

On February 14th, Stardale Women's Group joined the 16th annual Valentine’s Day Memorial March honor and remember Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2 Spirit People (MMIWG2S+). Through a solemn walk, we stood in solidarity with those affected by this tragedy, advocating for justice, awareness, and healing. The girls also gifted the crowd with their drumming and were met with wholesome gratitude.

Performing at the Calgary Teachers Convention

Our girls took center stage at the Calgary Teachers Convention, captivating educators with their drumming. It was a wonderful opportunity to share the strength and beauty of Indigenous culture while inspiring educators to create inclusive spaces in classrooms.

Strikes and Spares: Annual Bowling Excursion

Laughter echoed through the bowling alley as Stardale Women's Group girls hit the lanes for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie. Bowling is always an exciting activity for the girls in the winter and reminds us all of the importance of play, fun and connection.

Beauty Inside and Out: Makeup Class

We believe that empowerment comes in many forms, and our makeup and self-care class offered the girls a chance to embrace their inner and outer beauty with confidence. The girls tested their skills on each other and got all glammed up!

As we bid farewell to February, we carry with us the memories, lessons, and bonds forged through these activities. At Stardale Women's Group, every moment is an opportunity for healing, empowerment, and growth, and we look forward to the adventures that await us in the months ahead.
